Concentration

The Master’s in English with a Concentration in Language and Literacy offers in-depth study of language structure, literacy development, and the social and cultural contexts of language use. This concentration is ideal for students interested in exploring how language shapes communication, learning, and identity across settings. Through coursework in linguistics, literacy studies, and applied language theory, students gain the tools to analyze and support language development in educational and professional environments. Graduates are prepared for careers in education, curriculum development, literacy advocacy, and language-related fields.

Program Requirements

  • Non-Thesis Option: thirty-six (36) hours of English in an individually-designed curriculum, maximum of six (6) graduate hours in a related field, One Theory and Methods Course, At least twenty-one (21) hours of course work at the 6000-level
  • Thesis Option: thirty-six (36) graduate hours of English, including six (6) hours of graduate credit from ENGL 7700, maximum of six (6) graduate hours in a related field, One Theory and Methods Course, At least eighteen (18) hours of course work at the 6000-level
