Admission Requirements

Incoming Freshmen

Students must meet BOTH qualifications:

  • Student must have at least a 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average
  • Student must have a minimum 24 composite score on the ACT.

Continuing Students

  • Student with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in 12 or more hours of university course work may apply to join the Honors Program.
  • The Honors Program Director evaluates continuing students’ applications on a case by case basis.
  • It is strongly suggested that students have at least four semesters of study remaining at Southeastern Louisiana University to be able to complete all requirements. If you have less than four semesters of study remaining and still wish to join the Honors Program, please check out the Honors Research & Creative Scholars Program.

Transfer Credit

A transfer student can join the Honors Program provided the student has enough remaining credits to earn Sophomore Honors Distinction, Senior Honors Distinction and/or the Honors Diploma. The student also should have at least three semesters left before graduation. Credit for honors courses taken at other institutions must first be evaluated by the Honors Director before approval as substitutions for Southeastern’s honors courses.

A minimum of 15 Honors credits must be earned at Southeastern to complete the Honors Program. 

Additionally:

  • No more than six (6) transfer honors credits may be applied toward Southeastern’s Sophomore Honors Distinction
  • No more than three (3) transfer credits may be applied toward Southeastern’s Senior Honors Distinction
