The mission of the Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station is to facilitate and support a better understanding of Southeast Louisiana’s coastal wetland environments through research, education, and public outreach activities and programs for Southeastern students, faculty and staff as well as the greater University community.
Turtle Cove is pleased to offer exciting and educational field experiences for 5th – 12th grade students, university classes and other community groups interested in wetland and aquatic sciences, as well as the environmental history and issues related to coastal wetland loss in Louisiana.
Field trips are held from approximately 9:00 am – 12:30 pm two to three days per week (Mon-Fri) during fall and spring semesters, and two days per week (Mon-Thurs) during the summer. Our field trip dates change each semester based on our graduate assistants’ class schedules.
For more information on field trips, group registration and available dates, please visit our Education and Outreach page. Thank you, and we look forward to working with your group.
It’s the 31st year of our Christmas Tree Recycling Program! Recycling your tree helps us restore marshes in Manchac and reduces waste in landfills. Please see the list below for drop off locations and times. Check out this year’s press release for more information. All donated trees should be stripped of any ornaments, lights, tinsel, stands, nails and screws, etc., and no flocked trees will be accepted. Thanks to all of our partners who have helped us make this program a success!
