CONTEMPORARY DANCE
Department of Music and Performing Arts

The Contemporary Dance Concentration at Southeastern Louisiana University is a choreography and performance based concert dance discipline of the arts that plays an active role within the Department of Music and Performing Arts. Students have the option of pursuing a Bachelor of General Studies with a Dance or Dance Studio Management Concentration, Bachelor of Education with a Dance teacher specialty content area, or a Minor in Dance and Contemporary Choreography. While working with their dance advisor, students can choose their focus from four advisement pathways: Choreography and Performance, InterARTS, Dance Educaton and Studio Management, or Faith Arts. See Dance Curriculum for details.

The Contemporary Dance Concentration offers courses in Research, Technique, and Performance that are centered within a Contemporary Dance approach to artistic investigation with emphasis on the creation of original work within a supportive environment so that each individual artist's voice can truly be heard. Through auditions, dancers perform each semester in the departmental contemporary dance ensemble company, Dance Performance Project. There are two additional ensemble companies that perform once a year including Dance Performance Project Improv devoted to movement improvisation as a performing art form and Dance Performance Worship devoted to faith and healing arts as a performing art form.

All levels of dance experience and training are invited to become a part of our
Contemporary Dance Concentration.
