🎭  ALPHA PSI OMEGA - Since 1925, this national honor society for university theatre students, has encouraged dramatic production at every step in a person’s academic career. Southeastern’s chapter, Alpha Epsilon Psi, began in 2007. Our chapter is extremely active creating student workshops, social events, and produces up to two student-run productions at Southeastern venues such as the Vonnie Borden Theatre, The Columbia Performing Arts Center, and The Student Union Theatre. APO is a wonderful opportunity to engage in theatre, make friends, learn new skills, and take on leadership within the organization.

The Columbia Theatre

SLU Students have the opportunity to perform, intern, and work study at The Columbia Theatre located in downtown Hammond and operated by Southeastern Louisiana University. Established in 1928, the 830-seat theater has an extensive historic past within Southeast Louisiana. The Columbia produces theatre and music performances and hosts classical and contemporary concerts, dance performances, and other special events.

New Play Development

Southeastern Theatre dedicates a quarter of its mainstage season to an unpublished play by an emerging playwright.  The Inkslinger International Playwriting Contest allows our students to participate in the process of developing a premiere production from staged readings through fully-realized performance.  The Inkslinger also grants students the opportunity to meet with the playwright and participate in post-show audience talkbacks.
