Outreach

Our Campus is Your Community

From state-of-the-art facilities that host events for the local community to small business development programs that bolster the local economy, we are committed to providing service and outreach to our region. Southeastern generates millions of dollars in economic impact, and our partnerships range from right down the road to across the globe. Near or far, we invite you to become part of Southeastern’s community.

Are you part of an event that you think we should know about? Contact the Office of Public & Governmental Affairs at [email protected].

KSLU Radio

The university’s radio station is heard throughout Hammond and the surrounding communities. Many announcers are communication students training for careers in the broadcast industry.

The Southeastern Channel

The university’s 24/7 educational cable television channel reaches into more than 94,000 homes in the region through the Charter Communications cable system.

Columbia Theatre

Every year, the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts presents a diverse offering of shows, including dance, theatre, classical and contemporary music concerts, as well as family programming.

Small Business Development

The Small Business Development Center provides tools and resources to help businesses grow and compete in the global economy.

Young Entrepreneurs Academy

Southeastern is a proud partner with the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), an innovative
program designed to transform middle and high school students into real entrepreneurial successes. YEA! takes 6th- 12th graders through the process of starting and launching a real business or social movement over the course of an academic year. The program is held in one of the newest technology labs at Southeastern’s College of Business and is hosted by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern.

Lions Lend a Paw for Flood Relief

Before the start of the fall semester, Lions volunteered over 1,000 much-needed hours of manpower helping with the regional recovery effort following the historic flooding that devastated much of south Louisiana. Communication professor Amber Narro and a team of faculty and staff help organize the overwhelming volunteer efforts from students and the community. Teams of students, student athletes, and members of many student organizations went out to over 60 homes to assist with cleanup using supplies donated by the community.
