Honors Student Association Meetings

Alternate Mondays at 4:30pm, Ascension Hall Classroom unless noted otherwise

January 30th - Introductions and planning for service, social, and academic events.

February 13th - Valentine's Party. 

February 27th - Academic and Service Committees are teaming up to celebrate Black History Month and Women's History Month and setting up a supply drive for the on campus Food Pantry.

March 13th - Call for nominees for next 2023-2024 officers & Academic Committee event.

March 27th - Honors Faculty Member of the Year Nominations.

April 17th - Elections of Officers for 2023-2024

May 1st - End-of-the-semester party.

Honors Game Night

January 25th, 6:00pm in Ascension Hall Room 123

UNO, Monikers, Werewolf, and more. Pick a table and play a game. Plus, there will be snacks!

Trivia Night 

January 31st, 6:00pm in Ascension Hall Room 123

Come with friends or get assigned to a team when you arrive. We'll ask the questions. Teams will give the answers. Prizes and snacks will be a win be a win for all. 

Valentine's Day Party

February 13th, 4:30pm in Ascension Hall Room 123

The Honors Student Association is hosting a Valentine's Day Party. Come enjoy yummy treats and celebrate or grumble about this most shamelessly commercial of holidays.

Romeo & Juliet Dinner and a Show 

March 9th, 6:30pm at the Columbia Theatre. 

Join your friends as the preview audience for Romeo & Juliet at the Columbia Theatre in downtown Hammond. We'll dine first, starting at 6:30pm, and then enjoy the tragedy that is marrying someone you've known three as a teenager. Show starts at 7:20pm.

Big Event

March 25th, 8:00am-12:00pm

Register to participate on a service team and spend the morning doing some good in the world. There will be breakfast, t-shirts, lunch, and the change to help someone in need.

Bob Ross Paint Night 

March 28th, 6:30pm in Ascension Hall Room 123

Come get your art on. We'll paint something fun and a good time along the way.

Kickball Tournament

Remember that big red rubber ball from middle school? It's back. Come join a team and take turns kicking, running, and generally having some outdoor fun on a beautiful spring day.

Town Hall Debate 

February 28th, 5:00pm in Student Union Room 2218

Join the Southeastern Debate Society for a lively debate on the ethics of using artificial intelligence programs like ChatGPT. You'll hear two speakers (pro vs. con) before opening the mic for audience arguments. We'll vote with our seats-moving from center to left or right as we're persuaded. Closing arguments and a final vote will determine winners.

Thesis Informational Session

Learn about the requirements for the Senior Honors Thesis, Senior Honors Distinction, and earning the Honors Diploma. All juniors interested in completing a senior thesis should attend.

Honors Recognition Ceremony

May 2nd, 5:00pm - 5:00pm-6:15pm at the Student Union Theatre (2nd Floor by Career Services)

Freshman of the Year, Sophomore Honors Distinction, Senior Honors Distinction, Honors Diploma, and Honors Faculty Member of the Year recipients will be honored. 

Research Showcase 

May 3rd, 5:00pm - 6:00pm Virtual Gather Town

Visit with student researchers in a virtual setting. Part videogame, part Zoom meet, part conference, you'll virtually wander around and hear from students completing Honors Option Contracts and Senior Theses about the work they have done. It's sure to be fun and informative.
